ROMEX CHESTY COUGH SYRUP

1.       WHAT ROMEX CHESTY COUGH SYRUP IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Romex Chesty cough syrup is a medicine which is used for a symptomatic relief of irritating and chesty coughs, catarrh, cold and sore throats. The liquid contains ammonium chloride which increases the volume of secretions in the respiratory tract thereby facilitating their removal by ciliary action and coughing and diphenhydramine which is an antihistamine that helps relieve coughing and dry secretions in the nose and chest.

2.       BEFORE YOU TAKE ROMEX CHESTY COUGH SYRUP

Do not take Romex Chesty Cough Syrup

-          If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to ammonium chloride and diphenhydramine or any of the ingredients in Romex Chesty Cough Syrup

-          If you have had a cough for a few weeks that may be caused by asthma, or a cough that brings up a lot of mucus (phlegm)

-          If you are taking, or have taken in the last two weeks, drugs for depression known as Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)

-          If you are less than 6 years old

If any of these apply to you, get advice from a doctor or pharmacist without using Romex Chesty Cough Syrup

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist

-          If you suffer from liver or kidney problems

-          If you have prostate problems (difficulty with passing water or needing to pass water often)

-          If you have narrow-angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)

-          If you are taking alcohol

-          If you have an intolerance to some sugars

-          If you are taking any other medicines containing codeine (sometimes used a painkiller)

-          If you are taking any other medicines including:

·         Anticholinergic drugs e.g. antidepressants (drugs to treat mood disorders), atropine (used to treat some eye conditions and occasionally bowel conditions)

·         Antihistamines (drugs used to treat allergies)

·         Minor tranquillizers  (drugs used to relax muscles or decrease anxiety)

·         Barbiturates (a kind of sleeping tablet)

If you are not sure about any of the medicines you are taking, show the bottle or pack to your pharmacists. If any of these bullet points apply to you now or in the past, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Special warnings about this medicine

 This medicine may cause drowsiness. If affected, do not drive or operate machinery. Avoid alcoholic drink.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Romex Chesty Syrup

-          This medicine contains sugar. If you have been told by your doctors that you have intolerance to some sugars contact your doctor before taking this medical product.

Contains 2.75 g sugar per 5 ml. This should be taken into account in patients with diabetes mellitus.

3.       HOW TO TAKE ROMEX CHESTY COUGH SYRUP

Always take Romex Chesty Cough Syrup exactly as your health care provider has told you. You should check with your health care provider if you are not sure.

The usual dose is

-          Adults: 10 ml, 8 hourly

-          6 – 12 years: 5 ml, 6-8 hourly

If you take more Romex Chesty Cough Syrup than you should, contact a doctor or your nearest Accident Emergency Department (Casualty) taking your leaflet and pack with you.

You should only take this medicine as required following the dosage instructions above carefully. If you forget to take a dose, take the next dose when needed. Do not take a double dose.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your health care provider.

4.       POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Like all medicines, Romex Chesty Cough Syrup can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your healthcare provider.

If you experience any of the following, stop using the medicine and seek immediate help:

-          Swelling of the face, lips and /or tongue

-          Allergic reactions including skin rashes (which may be severe and include blistering or peeling of the skin) and itching

-          Fits or numbness (parasthesia)

If you experience any of the following, stop using the medicine and talk to your doctor:

-          Increased awareness of heartbeat (palpitations)

-          Shakiness (Tremor)

-          Difficulty passing water

Other effects which may occur include:

-          Drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision

-          Dry mouth, nose and throat

-          Upset Stomach

If you experience any side effects not included here or are not sure about anything, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

5.       HOW TO STORE ROMEX CHESTY COUGH SYRUP

Keep out of the reach and sight of children

Do not store above 30 degree Celsius

Store in the original container

Do not use ROMEX CHESTY COUGH SYRUP after the expiry date which is stated on the bottle after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month .

Do not use ROMEX CHESTY COUGH SYRUP if you notice any visible signs of deterioration.

Medicines should not be disposed via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

The active pharmaceutical ingredients are Ammonium chloride and Diphenhydramine.

The other ingredients are sugar, glycerin, alcohol, sodium benzoate, citric acid, caramel. Menthol, tolu, squill and bright red color.
