Rescalin
Syrup is intended for use in adults (aged over 15 years) who have had a
recent respiratory disorder with difficulty expectorating (i.e. difficulty
coughing up phlegm).
Actions
Carbocisteine
has mucolytic activity.
Composition
Each 5ml contains:
Carbocisteine
- 250mg
Dosage
FOR USE IN ADULTS ONLY (over 15 years)
One
measuring spoon (5 ml) in the morning, at midday and in the evening, not
during mealtimes, without exceeding 3 measuring spoons per day.
Contra-indication
Rescalin
Syrup is contra-indicated in patients
who have manifested hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to Carbocisteine
or any of the other ingredients.
It is also contra-indicated in patients with active
peptic or duodenal ulcer and children <2 years.
Precaution
You must
not use medicines which suppress cough (cough suppressants) or which dry
out bronchial secretions when taking Rescalin Syrup. This is because
Rescalin Syrup thins secretions, making them easier to cough up. Coughing
is a useful mechanism for expectoration.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using
Rescalin Syrup:
- If
you (or your child) have a fever or are coughing up
"greenish" mucus.
- If
you (or your child) suffer from chronic (long term) bronchial or
pulmonary disease.
- If
you (or your child) have a history of gastroduodenal ulcers (affecting
the stomach or intestine).
- If
you are elderly.
- If
you are also taking medicines that are likely to cause bleeding in the
stomach or intestine.
Treatment
should be stopped if bleeding in the stomach or intestine occurs.
